A Mother’s Day Tribute to Ruth Dennis: The Heart Behind Remember Media
This Mother’s Day, we celebrate a woman whose life, legacy, and quiet strength have helped shape a powerful movement in senior care and connection—Ruth Dennis, great-great-grandmother to one of our founders Jessica Grabell.
Ruth, who will turn 105 this August, is a living testament to the enduring bonds of family across five generations. She is sharp, loving, and deeply cherished—but like many older adults, she lives far from family. And with the passing of her son and granddaughter (Jessica’s grandfather and mother) many years ago, some of the traditional “bridges” that keep generations connected are not available.
Without those middle connectors, staying in touch—especially through modern technology—can be daunting or even impossible.
That’s where Remember Media comes in.
Inspired by Ruth’s experience, Remember Media was designed to make connection easy, affordable, and meaningful—without Wi-Fi, expensive devices, or complicated instructions. There’s no device to charge. Nothing fragile to drop. No learning curve to climb. It simply works with a scannable QR code, which can be worn as jewelry, attached to a walker or wheelchair, posted on the wall, or displayed in countless creative ways.
Anyone with a smartphone, tablet, or iPad—whether they’re a family member, caregiver, volunteer, or friend—can instantly access a personalized collection of photo memories, video greetings, and even virtual calling, all securely curated for the older adult.
At only $12.95 CAD/month, it’s a low-cost solution with no large upfront investment and no dependency on family tech-savviness. We’re currently running product trials and fine-tuning the experience before launching to the public later this year.
But technology is only part of the picture.
At MemoraCare Technologies, we’re also building partnerships with community sponsors to ensure equitable access, regardless of someone’s financial resources or level of care support. We believe that every older adult—not just those with engaged families or high incomes—deserves the right to connection.
That’s why we’re out in the community, educating care teams, volunteers, and families. We're grounded in Reminiscence Therapy, backed by research showing that social isolation can be nearly as detrimental as poor nutrition to an older adult’s health.
Think of Remember Media as a modern-day Meal Delivery Program for Older Adults—but instead of delivering food, we’re delivering connection, memories, and joy, with the science to support its impact.
This Mother’s Day, we honour Ruth Dennis—a woman whose century of wisdom and warmth helped spark a movement that will connect thousands of older adults to the people and memories that matter most.
To Ruth, and to all the mothers, grandmothers, and great-great-grandmothers who have given us so much—we see you, we celebrate you, and we are committed to keeping you close, no matter the distance.
With love,
The MemoraCare Technologies Team
